Question: I want to order your training bag/kit and a couple dummies. I am not sure if you have the correct size for my dog in stock on the website. I have a 1y English Cocker from a working line. From watching the Cali Keep on series - it looks like a lot of the dummies you use would be too large - least what I can tell. Which product would you recommend for an english cocker (24lbs).
Answer: I don't match the size of the dummy to the dog, instead I match the dummy size to the game we will be retrieving and the scenario we are facing in training. Small dummies are equivalent to small game and make things more difficult to see (creating better scent work drills). Large dummies are necessary for a dog to become accustom to when picking up larger game like rooster pheasants, mallard ducks, geese, etc. About the only time I look at dummy size relative to the dog is in puppy situations where I don't want a young dog to struggle in making the retrieve. Typically I don't see this as much of an issue with any retrieving breed and the cockers would not be an exception to that rule.
I hope that helps, keep me posted and enjoy the process with your pup! Jeremy
